Typical Virginia State Park campground; overall very nice and well maintained. There are three campgrounds available here: Lakeside(on the lake), Beaverdam and White Oak. Lakeside has no electricity, I'm not sure about water. The other two have water and electricity. There are a few pull-through sites in each but not many. Access for large (>40') vehicles would be difficult and the roads in the campground are pretty tight with a fairly narrow turning radius. We stayed in White Oak which is by far the more wooded and secluded of the three. The sites in the other two campgrounds are right on top of each other without much to screen you from your neighbors. Really nice lake to swim in and a nice restaurant, Lakeview, which is open in the summer from Wed-Sun. We didn't eat there.
Very nice little state park. Unlike the previous reviewer from 2003, we found the park to be quite clean and in a good state of repair. They must have done some upgrading in the last few years. We live in Virginia and would definitely come back. Even in March, it was pretty crowded on the weekend; but, it wasn't too noisy.
Great park! Quite large for a NPS park but really well laid out so you aren't camping right on top of each others. They has a lot of really secluded tent sites but they are a bit of a hike if you take a lot of equipment like we do when we tent camp! The RV sites are nicely wooded and fairly well separated, too. Lots of great hiking. Nice ranger programs nightly during the summer. Showers are only available at the camp store which is a little bit of a walk from some of the sites.
Good campground for families. Lots of activities for kids of all ages. We tend to like more secluded camping and really came here just to check out Urbanna. Stayed in the middle of the week and while the campground was not as crowded then, Urbanna pretty much rolls up its sidewalks from Monday through Wednesday. There is a trolley service from the campground into Urbanna but we didn't find out until we got there that it only runs Thursday through Sunday and on Thursday it doesn't start until 3pm! Wouldn't recommend staying here unless you like large RV "resorts" and are going with a big family.
We camped here in April and the weather was great but the park was absolutely deserted in the middle of the week. We actually had our loop completely to ourselves 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there. Many have commented on how narrow the sites are and it did make it a little difficult to back in and get our slides out (Campground C - Orange sites) but there are a wide variety of sites available and on another loop (Campground C - Blue sites) there were much wider sites that would not have been difficult to get into; though they weren't waterfront, they were more level overall and a little more secluded.
