Very rustic setting for dry camping with spectacular views of Kathadin and the Penobscot. We saw bald eagles, deer and a watched a moose swim across the river. Boating and fly fishing from our site. Super clean bathroom/hot showers, dump station available, well stocked store, gasoline. It is an 18.5 mile very bumpy ride down the Golden road to access. There is no reliable cell phone coverage. It might not be easy for >30 ft rig to navigate turns. Our 27 ft class C had no trouble though.
We stayed in the upper part of this nice KOA. These are a little more private than the lower area with more trees and less road noise. The lower area had open sites for big rigs to pull through. Unfortunately our site had a sewer odor and I believe the owners were aware and planning to upgrade the system. The new owners were friendly and the store was well stocked. The pool area was small, but very clean. We stayed here for the ballon festival, we would camp here again.
Spent one night on the way to Baxter state park. Easy access off I-95. Grocery and restaurants within 5 minutes. Wi-Fi was sporadic. Quiet hours were quiet. The office was friendly. Would be a decent CG to use as a base for the Bangor area. Not a destination by itself. We would stop here again. Would have had higher rating if the Wi-Fi was stronger.
Very pretty pond for fishing/canoes and small beach area for campers. Our "pull through" Site (1) was accessed by a very narrow, tree branch lined road, not easy for our 27 foot Class C. Most sites are shady under tall mature tree canopy. Paved access roads are very hilly and curvy. Site 1 was level. A big rig could back in instead of pulling through. Kids biked all around. We will return.
We arrived in the dark after the office closed, and the directions to our site were ready. Only 2 negatives: they could have written, "Pull straight in." Instead it appeared to be a back in site, (23) we had to turn around in the dark to get parked. Cable TV hookup was faulty so they gave us complementary firewood to make up. A nice touch, it was delivered to our site. Nice store, nice office staff, kids enjoyed pancake breakfast one morning. The campground recycles bottles/cans, picks up trash at your site. Close to our hike up Mt Martha. Last minor negative was it is close to a road: can't escape the road noise. We would camp here again for White Mountain activities.
We were seasonal here for a few years. A great campground for kids, small and elementary age, great pool, pool cafe, ice cream and shows on Saturday nights. Not much to do for teens. Great tent sites at the top of the mountain.
Easy check in. No surprises. They did check the dog's rabies certificate. Well stocked store. Cinnamon rolls in the morning were enjoyed. Level pull through, we had a wooded site 86. Nice tent sites separate from RV's. Big open safari field for groups-very sunny. Seasonal around a little old, but neat. We would camp here again for activities on the Deer field river.
