This is a very nice and popular campground. There are large level sites with a lot of room in between sites. Numerous small lakes provide fishing and there is a lot of water fowl and birds for viewing. There are numerous trails in the area. Camping can get pricey with camping fee, vehicle registration, and online reservation fees. Since we brought our car and motorhome they added up. The dirt road into the park is very rough, and since it rained, it got very muddy as well.
This campground has a nice location on the Chama River. We stayed there on a very busy Memorial Day weekend. Our two biggest problems were they did not have enough trash containers to accommodate a holiday weekend, causing trash to overflow the dumpsters. Also, the bathrooms did not appear to get cleaned until most of the holiday crowd left. We felt that this could be a nice campground with more active management.
Campground was a little large for our tastes, but it was immaculate and very well managed. It sat in a valley with mountain views all around. Wi-Fi worked well, and the location served as a good hub as we explored the area.
Absolutely gorgeous location for a campground. Our front window looked out on the Conejos River. It was a little tight driving through the park, but the owner directed us into our site. He was very friendly and helpful. Even though we were only there for one night, we would like to return for a longer stay.
