We stayed for a week in this great national forest campground. It is a solid 20 miles north of Pagosa Springs, the first 10 is very bumpy on pavement. Once you leave the pavement it is much easier traveling. If you love being out of touch, but close enough to town you will love this campground. Sportsman campground about halfway had a great store and helpful info on local fishing hotspots. This is a dry camp situation with potable water in site. The camp host was awesome and took great care of the camp and open pit toilets.

This is an excellent state park. Everything in this part of New Mexico requires an open mind to be considered scenic. The campground was well taken care of and clean. A great family park with a shade covered play area. The lake was significantly down during our visit, but the boat launch was plenty long. The lake isn't very big so plan on short joy rides then soaking in some sun while swimming off the back of the boat. Overall, no complaints!
