A great state park gem that has been abandoned by the local since the lake is drought stricken. If your idea of a relaxing time is no crowds, open spaces to let the kids roam while you read your book, this state park is for you. You can tell it had its heyday when the lake was accessible, but don't let that keep you away. We were glad to stumble upon it by accident and are already planning our return trip.

A great park in the desert! First off, the customer service is top notch. We made a request for site in proximity to other campers and received a phone call prior to our arrival to inform us our request had been honored. The place was very clean and well kept. Each morning I saw no less than five people working the grounds and two people in the nicely stocked office/store. No complaints. My rate reflects the 'top of the line' site with a patio, covered seating area, and porch swing.

Expect sand, sun, wind. A great state park that is easy to navigate and close to I-20. My only caution would be that if the 10-15 pull off/pull through type spots are full then big rigs will have a difficult time parking in the narrow, perpendicular spots. A great spot to stop on your way through the Texas desert!

We stayed for a week in this great national forest campground. It is a solid 20 miles north of Pagosa Springs, the first 10 is very bumpy on pavement. Once you leave the pavement it is much easier traveling. If you love being out of touch, but close enough to town you will love this campground. Sportsman campground about halfway had a great store and helpful info on local fishing hotspots. This is a dry camp situation with potable water in site. The camp host was awesome and took great care of the camp and open pit toilets.

This is an excellent state park. Everything in this part of New Mexico requires an open mind to be considered scenic. The campground was well taken care of and clean. A great family park with a shade covered play area. The lake was significantly down during our visit, but the boat launch was plenty long. The lake isn't very big so plan on short joy rides then soaking in some sun while swimming off the back of the boat. Overall, no complaints!
