Great campground. Stayed here before and the only issues are a little lack of attention, tall grass, and the beach was closed due to high water. But the sites are paved and level, several right on the water. Facilities are in good repair and clean and the ranger came around often which has been my gripe in the past. Excellent campground we will stay here again.
Second time here this year and I can't say enough about this little CG in Jackson, MS. 10 minutes from downtown and all the "urban activity" but quiet and peaceful. Ranger came by often, but we didn't even need to talk to anyone in the office. Facilities were in good working order, road in is gravel but smooth. I'll be back...
Stayed here for Halloween on recommendation of friends, great idea! Hayrides, haunted house(s) haunted campsites, great time. Little noisier than typical, but well worth it. Park is a treasure regardless of time of year, hiking, thick woods make it more like camping instead of a "park" atmosphere in many CGs. Leave the fishing pole at home, lake is pretty but nothing in it. I will be back.
To be honest, as a Mississippi resident, I was embarrassed. Unkempt, and old this was a disappointment. Zero privacy because there is no under-growth, dozens of mature trees but nothing less than 50 years old so in a few years this will look like a hay field. Since there is so much sun it needs mowing and trimming more than most, a requirement that must have been overlooked by the maangement. Largest lake in MS, lots of fishing, and boating, but this campground is sad. Heres an idea, put in some new growth trees, clean up the place (weedeat), fix the dump station,it is disgusting. MS is supposed to be an outdoor state, this park didn't show that.
Fantastic park, only gave it a 9 because some of the sites are very close. Nice beach, water access from about half the sites. Nice folks running the place too. I will be back. Only issue is if you've never been there be careful about the sites, COE website is useless on scale drawing of park and parking. We will be back.
Very nice well kept park. We come here often and always enjoy it. Paved level spots, all the furnishings are functional, some sites are right on the water. Lots of passes by from the "contractor" rangers and even local sheriff. Beach area is pretty close and mostly shaded sites. I'll be back.
So much potential, but very disappointing. Mostly waterfront spots, all level. Bathrooms were great, lake is beautiful. However your in Mississippi, it's in the 90s and there is no lake swimming? No pool, no beach, so we can't get in the water? Never seen this before. They can ski, but you can't swim from the very open and clean shore? Nice park for fall maybe but in summer it is not kid friendly. What a shame because it is really nice otherwise. I doubt we'll come again.
I am a regular at this park and it seems budget cuts are starting to take a toll. Installed grills and picnic tables looking rough. The park itself is great though. Yocona ridge has lots of sites on the water, very peaceful and shaded. Mississippi should just raise the user fees and take care of infrastructure, and you will have a premier park!
So much potential, but the campground is very nice, many sites right on the water. Clean and shaded, it is a real gem. Only drawback is management. It was a bit off-season so the contractor was the only ranger we saw and she was useless. Her office is right next to the bathhouse and I had to go tell her it was backing up. When some youngsters decided to share Led Zepplin with everyone in the campground she merely shrugged and said she would tell the ranger "whenever he came by". Put someone who cares in there and this place would be top notch!
This is a great campground for boaters! Most sites are either waterfront or very close. Many boat owners have their boats docked right at their site (noise). Sites are very close together and maneuvering anything over 30ft is a challenge. It is like apartment dwelling in campers. Too bad because the river and lake are great!
A very roomy campground, any sized RV can maneuver here. The bath houses were great and we saw some deer and other wildlife. The only draw-back: one should always check the COE website to be sure the lake is not too high for swimming. Sometimes it is too high for recreational access.
We camped in the Yacona Ridge area, mostly waterfront and very nice! Just the right amount of vegetation to make it secluded but still possible to pull my trailer through. It has a pool, restaurant, a beautiful view and access to the interstate. Great spot!
