A long, slow, steep and curvy road to the Juniper Campground near the top around 3,000 feet. Our trailer is 20 feet, which is just about the limit. Dry camping. Juniper is the only campground on Mount Diablo with showers. Contrary to the web site, the showers were operational in July 2009. Also no dump sites on the mountain. There is a campground (Live Oak) nearer the bottom at the south entrance out of Danville. It took us 40 minutes minimum to get up and down the mountain to Walnut Creek, North Gate. But it was worth it. The views down on the valley below are phenomenal, especially the sunsets. There are many, many trails to hike if you are in good shape. Bicyclers are always going up and down the main road (scary!). Not many critters to see though. If you want seclusion, great air, great views, don't mind dry-camping and don't have a big rig, this is a great place to decompress. See the web site for descriptions of the many other worthwhile places in the park. There are other campgrounds; Live Oak is at 1400 feet, with 22 sites, and an open area at the Junction Ranger Station has 6 sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
