Park has beautiful views of Mt. Katahdin and Penobscot river. We visited in the fall so the foliage was amazing. Less than 20 miles from Millinocket over a bumpy road. Go slow and you will have no problems. Moose, bald eagles, deer are plentiful to view. No services so dry camping is a must. Our rating would have been higher had there been T-paper in the bathrooms. We asked attendants over four days for TP, and only got it on the fourth day. Trash had not been emptied for many many days / weeks. Owners were away to a wedding, so this probably would have been different had they been around. Heavy logging trucks start moving around 3 a.m. during the week, so the wonderful silence for good sleeping is gone. Again, this is a beautiful campground setting, but bring your own TP and a broom for the bath rooms. We will go back as long as the owners are present. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very rustic setting for dry camping with spectacular views of Kathadin and the Penobscot. We saw bald eagles, deer and a watched a moose swim across the river. Boating and fly fishing from our site. Super clean bathroom/hot showers, dump station available, well stocked store, gasoline. It is an 18.5 mile very bumpy ride down the Golden road to access. There is no reliable cell phone coverage. It might not be easy for >30 ft rig to navigate turns. Our 27 ft class C had no trouble though. We camped here in a Motorhome.
