This recently renovated BLM campground is located at around 2,900 feet at the end of the paved portion of the Denali Highway from the Richardson Highway. Because the campground was renovated in 2011, many of the camping guides have old information about this campground. When we camped here, the first 10 or so miles of the road from the Richardson Highway were good, but with significant uphill. The next 12 or so miles to the campground were very rough, but doable in a motorhome driving slowly. The panoramic view from the campground is great. The location is great for leaving a RV and driving the Denali Highway for a day trip. This campground is fairly heavily used, so plan to arrive early to get a site. The sites are well separated but with little vegetation, so not a lot of visual separation. The interior roads and the sites are packed gravel. A few of the sites are pull-through and would work for a fairly large RV. The only fresh water is from a hand pump and there is no dump station, so arrive with full tanks and plan on taking out the waste. There are pit toilets. Paxson Lodge at the intersection of the Richardson Highway will let you fill with water and use their dump for $5.00. There is a campground host and there is firewood available for sale. Our Verizon phone had a strong signal, but the Verizon MiFi did not get a good data connection. Because of the lack of vegetation, our Hughes Satellite internet worked well on satellite 127W. We would stay here again to do the Denali Highway. We camped here in a Motorhome.
