Ferndale is the attraction here. The RV park is really just a dirt field with water and electric. Staff are nice and helpful. They have a few paved spots inside the fairgrounds and a couple with 50 amp. Call ahead to make sure the fair is not in session. But Ferndale is worth it. A wonderful little town with lots of Victorian houses and buildings. A great walking town. Lots to see. Hotel Ivanhoe has a wonderful restaurant. Definitely try the sandwiches at The Meat Company. Travel caution – the road between Shelter Cove and north to Ferndale (the Lost Coast) is terrible. The road itself is in horrible condition with dirt in a few spots. And since the pavement is in such terrible condition, the dirt is better. Many, many tight turns with many very tight hairpin switchbacks steep both up and down. We had to disconnect twice on hairpins (38’ Class A with dingy). Speed is usually under 25 MPH and one still bounces all over the place. The drive is just not worth it. The view is nothing to speak of. Only a short view of the coast. Much better views can be had at Shelter Cove or Ferndale. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a good spot while looking the area over. Campground has been around for many years and does lack maintenance. Grounds are clean along with the showers. All sites are not level but not far off. We have stayed here at least once a year for the past ten years. It is a good place to stay. No sewer on sites but if does have a dump station. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
