What a setting! You can sit outside & watch the river traffic. Quite often you can watch one of the Navy ships pull in. And watch people gather on the shore. You can make reservations which is a good thing because this is a popular park. 2 week max but can extend if no one is scheduled to come in. Lots to do in the area off base. On base is a golf course. Aice place for breakfast or lunch. Commissary & Exchange are located off base. The CG itself has activities, pot lucks, ice cream socials & other gatherings. We are here at least once a year to visit family in the area. Great sites & staff. Don't leave your awning out. We have started a collection of pics of various awnings in disarray after being left out while people are gone or left up overnight. We will stay here again & again! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Pelican Roost RV Park on the Naval Station at Mayport, ( part of greater Jacksonville and Military Only ) FL is a very popular facility during the winter months. They have 59 sites ( 17 overlooking the St. John’s River/ the shipping channel ), free wireless, washers, ice and use of an oven. If looking to stay there, just call the reservations number and do it early. All sites appear to be 30/50 Amp FHU sites. If using a GPS plug in the zip code ( 32228 ) or Lat/Long 30.3772 / 81.410325. The Commissary and BX is off base. The Coast Guard Station offers ( breakfast & lunch ) as does the golf course. The above mentioned waterfront sites can be reserved for an additional $2.00. Worth it you enjoy looking at the ships coming and going. A note on the go Wi-Fi – it requires you give your credit card number but so far we haven’t been charged anything. Our Verizon cell and MiFi worked well here. You can only stay here for a max of 29 days. When the tide is in, many people fish at the rock jetties in front of the park. It is generally a very windy facility to the point that I didn’t use their golf course this time. We actually experienced two days of gale force gusts. The dog walk area is spacious and along the front of the park. The hosts/manager does everything in their power to ensure your stay is enjoyable. We come here every few years and will continue to do so. We camped here in a Motorhome.
