Access to the park going east entailed a U-turn on the busy interstate (dangerous). We reserved a select site away from the traffic noise at the rear of the park two months in advance. When we arrived they had given away our site despite having called them several times with updates to our progress getting there. Ended up having to squeeze into a site about 100' from the highway where most of the shade trees were but no sleep from the highway noise and construction going on at that spot. At the time there was a permanent resident parked there with a Pit Bull tethered outside his trailer with a light weight cord and several other permanents with clutter around their units taking up the prime sites with a few dogs running loose. It seemed to us that their utilities were installed on the wrong side of the very narrow sites for modern rigs and this limited the sites we could set up on. The sites were very close together. All sites are grass, the roads are gravel/paved and the utilities worked well. We stayed only one night instead of a few months there and found a better spot up the road for our summer exploring base camp. Definitely would not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

The manager was friendly and very helpful. This campground was nice and the facilities were clean and cared for. We were here for a rally and things could not have been better. The rain made things a little muddy but that was not the fault of the campground. We would return if this way again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Staway Ranch for 5 months while getting a bed built for our HDT. We really enjoyed our stay there. The sites are grassy and most are shaded. The people there are absolutely wonderful and willing to help (e.g., while we were gone for a month in the winter, one of the workers offered to check our fifth-wheel's propane bottles to be sure we didn't run out while we were gone). Roads are wide enough to allow easy access to sites. Sites are very large -- well over 100' long in some parts of the park, and 30' & over in width. There is a small fishing lake that is free, and lots of room to ride bikes or take walks in. They have a great area for rallies, and large meeting/pot luck "rooms." There is also one HUGE building available for big rallies, dances, etc. They have a pool table, book/tape exchange, and had started working on constructing a swimming pool when we left in February. Staway is in a rural setting, and situated between a railroad track about 1/2 mile to the north & Hwy 30 on the south. Short distance to Athens (~11 miles) & Tyler (~25 miles) for shopping, restaurants, etc. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a good basic park without a lot of frills. We just stayed overnight so we did not get a good look at the entire park, but there appears to be a long term section that was well kept and an overnight section that was also nice but with a little less landscaping. The pull thru sites were gravel and grass and were extra long. Some were shaded and some not. The trees were wide enough apart to accommodate slides and there was plenty of room between sites. The TV cable was a bit erratic, but OK for an overnight. One drawback is that there is highway noise, but in May in Texas you need AC so we did not hear anything. Bathrooms were older but clean. The office people were very friendly, but take note that they do not accept credit cards. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Haven't been here for two years, but I'm glad we came back. It's a very pleasant park. The highway noise can sometimes be bothersome, but not enough to detract from the serene setting. There's enough shade trees in most of the park to offer some relief from the sun but not too many to get in the way of maneuvering. We were there when two groups were having a rally, but the place is large enough that you don't notice each other. Good weekend getaway for use when in the Tyler and Athens area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Good place to get away. Except for the occassional train and some highway noise, this is a pleasant place to park for a few days. Have been there twice in the last year. Will go back. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

A large park but it needs more maintenance work and not all sites are equal. Sites on west side of park have grass and shade, to the east dirt and gravel. Store has zero groceries and very little else, surprising for a place 10 miles away from the nearest town. We camped here in a camper.
