This is a very well run and clean county park. We stayed in Barton East, which is the RV side. The park is located on the river and the day use side can get pretty noisy, but it closes at night and the park gets very quiet. The dump station is conveniently located at the exit and is easy to use. The pull-through sites are very nice. There is very little road noise and some very nice dog walking areas. Definitely worth a stay, and we will be back whenever we go to Portland. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We had been here before, and were quite shocked when we pulled in to see that all the grass in the park has been allowed to die. Instead of a lovely green campground, we pulled into an asphalt site surrounded by dry, dead grass. Very disappointing, and odd since we're told there has been no drought here. RV sites in the east campground are large and level, but the dead grass and dying trees give the whole park a dilapidated, run-down appearance. Too bad. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a nice park. They charge $16 on weekdays and $19 on weekends and you get water and 50 amp electricity. There are no large trees in the East campground which is for RVs so your satellite dishes will work fine. You park on asphalt and the spaces are nicely separated. There is a picnic table at each site as well as a fire pit. This brings up a point that some people should be aware of. People use this park as a "campground" so there is smoke from the campfires and people sit around drinking. They can get pretty noisy and stay up well after quiet hours. This is generally only a problem on weekends however. I would have rated this park a 10 if they had sewer connections at the site and if the park hosts or rangers had enforced quiet hours. We camped here in a Motorhome.
If your in the Portland area we found this campground attached to a county park on the river to be wonderful and will return...clean, easy parking, friendly staff and a bargain... We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a real gem of a campground, located just 9 miles outside of Portland on Highway 224. It's a Clackamas County Park, one of 3 which have camping facilities. Barton has 2 separate campgrounds: one has been here for years and offers RV and tent camping, either on nicely maintained grass backed up to huge fir trees, or on dirt within some of those huge trees; the other is a new CG, with paved sites and is for RV's only. All sites have water and power hook-ups, and a dump station is at the park entrance. Both campgrounds have bathrooms and shower facilities. Since Portland seems to have a shortage of good RV places, this was a great find. Portland is only 10 minutes away, but you're in the country near the Clackamas River, with deer, quail, and a multitude of frogs in the 4 ponds in the upper campground. The mailing address of the park is in Boring, OR, but Barton is a tiny community which is several miles from Boring. Don't believe the directions in the Trailer Life Directory! Go to the website for correct directions. Rates are $12 Sunday through Thursday, and $16 on Friday and Saturday. We camped here in a Motorhome.
