This campground was an acceptable place to stay during our stopover and visit to Ocracoke Island. Access through the gate into the park and along the internal paved roads was tight for our motorhome, as were the sites. The 50-amp service and water pressure were good. The site surface was dirt, fairly level, and it held up well as we departed after a torrential rain. The bathrooms, showers and laundry room were very old and in rough shape, although they seemed clean. Most of the sites contained seasonal trailers in various condition, mostly not so good. We would probably not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Ants are a problem. Raw sewage smell at all times even outside the camper. We were told the ocean was 1 mile away and you did not need a vehicle to get there. The ocean is 2 miles away and you must travel on 3 busy roads to get there. At registration we were not give the option to pay nightly and the person at the desk wanted cash. When we realized how terrible the conditions were and we knew we were infested with the ants, even though we tried to treat with ant spray and the other poisons they recommended, we asked for a refund for the remaining nights. They refused to give a refund even though we were not instructed about this at registration. Their registration form has a box with no refund / initial next to it. I did not mark anything in this box. After I registered, they marked it with a yellow marker. The showers and pool were old but clean. If you go there be prepared for the ants and the smell. And the beach is more than a mile away. We camped here in a Motorhome.
