Have stayed at Father Hennepin Lakeview CG many times over the last 10 years, and have noticed a marked decrease in rules enforcement the last few years, with this year being the worst. Only supposed to have one vehicle per campsite, almost everyone had more than one, plus a boat/trailer. Boats only supposed to be parked in a certain lot, but instead they took up all of the overflow parking in the cg the entire time. Most drivers go through the campground at a very high rate of speed: both campers going around the loops, and boaters going to the in-camp boat launch (there are other launches in the park). There was dog waste all over. There was garbage all over. Dogs are not supposed to be on the beach and yet there were many there every time we visited it. We like this cg very much, but are sad to see it slipping down into a low-class place. I did talk to the ranger in the office a bit, not sure what good it did, but hopefully the park management will make an effort to get this park back to where it used to be. It might take a few years before we want to go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful campground with large sites. There are plenty of trees, for both shade and privacy. There are some good hiking trails and a public boat launch onto the Rum River. As with most Minnesota state parks, the bathrooms were clean, the rangers were friendly and extremely knowledge and the park was very well cared for. This park can be a destination on its own, or makes a great base camp for activities on Mille Lacs lake. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Great park with two different campgrounds in it. We chose Maple Grove Campground with no electrical hook-ups. This campground was well spaced out and tons of trees. The kids enjoyed biking around the trails and biking to the bathrooms. The "hidden" paths were their favorite. Used the beach and fishing pier. Too windy for catching fish, but still fun. Did the Hiking Club, geocaching in the park, and saw the albino deer. Very pet friendly. Camped with three other families, very quiet park. Would visit again. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Semi-modern sites, has water, toilet & shower facilities; dump station. Picnic area, volleyball, play ground, swimming areas. South end of Mille Lacs Lake. Amenties also include hiking trails, cross-country trails & near the Soo Line biking/hiking trails. Also 2 boat ramps & 2 fishing piers. Very nice, scenic park & we would return. Reservations for weekends are recommended. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Two campgrounds: Maple Grove is more woodsy, non-electric, good for tenters, and very available. The Lakeview Campground is more open. Sites 1 to 7 (non-electric) are close to the lake. You'll have a nice view, hear the waves lapping the shore, and get the lake breeze. Very nice! Other sites 14 to 62 are electric(with some exceptions) and are in a more grassy open area. Park has some of the best hiking trails I've seen (well maintained) though not especially long. Nice beach for splashing or swimming. Lakeview also has showers/flush toilets that were clean and pleasant. Good cell phone and Blackberry coverage down by the water. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice state park. It has two separate campgrounds. The Lakeview campground has 41 electrical sites. It has many trees so there is good shade, but there is no understory. So there is little to no privacy. You are close to your neighbors. It is very family oriented. Many kids. Sites 1-7 are along the lake. They have good views of Lake Mille Lacs. They would work good for tents and pop up campers. If you want more secluded and spread out sites the Maple Grove campground offers that (if you don't need an electrical site). Most of the roads are paved in the park (except for the Maple Grove campground). So it is good if you have small children who like to ride bike. There is a nice paved trail along the lake with nice views. There are two separate boat ramps - so good access to the lake. Although it was a slightly chilly while we were there it has one of the nicer looking beaches I have seen at a state park. We'll return to this state park in the future, but will try a camp site in the Maple Grove campground next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
