We went to this campsite to learn more about the Little House on the Prairie and it was not disappointing. The owners are very knowledgeable about the history of the Ingalls Homestead. They have lots of activities for the kids. There are 4 campsites and only Gray water dump station. It was very peaceful at night and would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We loved this campground. As lifelong Laura Ingalls Wilder fans, staying here is a powerful experience. It is absolutely beautiful. Bunkhouse is an old house or school. Very nice and spacious for the price. Bathrooms were clean. This is a small campground. There were only about six other families camping here. In addition to camping, the fee to explore the historic site is $10 per person, but this is good for your entire stay. They have Ma's house a barn where you go to look for the kittens, pony rides, a wagon ride, and other activities for kids. The town of De Smet is close by where there is a swimming pool. $1 for kids and $2 for adults. We camped here in a Campground Cabin.

If they had full hookups I would have given them a 10. The previous reviewer is correct about the slope of the hill. It is a bit scary but we managed to get our 27ft TT in without a problem. The sight itself is just lovely. After they closed the homestead for the night we were allowed to ride bikes down toward the school house and back, walk the dogs around the homestead, and just generally enjoy the place. It was beautiful and peaceful. We arrived on July 4th. The homestead had a perfect view of the DeSmet 4th fireworks. I would return in a heartbeat. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

With all the land they have I don't know why they put the RV spots on a small hill. The back in spots are hard to get into, because of a steep slope. It was great to be so close to the homestead and the people were very accommodating. I advise only small RVs park in these sights. We have a 31 foot and we had to go over and down the slope to back into the spot. We would not go here again which is a shame because everything else was very good. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Our family had a wonderful time here. The owners and staff make you feel like a family guest, rather than a customer. We ended up staying over a week because our kids had such a good time, the entire grounds were so well kept and the ambiance so nice. There are only 4 RV sites, so you may want to call ahead. The sites share a power so they are paired but we had the place to ourselves for half the week in late August. It's not well known that they have RV camping. There is a dump station but no sewer at the sites. The visitor center restrooms are new and very close. There is a storm shelter just in case. If you're coming to De Smet for the Laura Ingalls Wilder history, you have to stop here. If you have kids, it's a MUST stop. Their family approach and hands on is the best we've seen in over a year of traveling the country with our young sons. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here in a covered wagon that the Homestead has there. This is the original Ingalls 160 acre homestead. A great place to stay while in De Smet doing the Laura Ingalls Wilder thing. A must for those Little House on the Prairie fans. The rate is for a Covered wagon. $30 for a trailer site We camped here in a Campground Cabin.
