One of my favorite local county parks. The gravel sites are level, many with really large grass areas. Each site features a roomy level gravel patio with picnic table and fire ring. We enjoy a nice campfire, and most sites have one every night. I will return. The county park has many trails, with cell phone tour information. Also ranger lead educational hikes are available, occasionally. Neat children's nature center with nice new bison and elk viewing area. The upper campsites have electricity with water available, while the sites on the lake are dry camping due to seasonal flooding. The nearby Equestrian Center is a nice place to reserve horse for their trail rides. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is our home campground close to Des Moines and is a lovely one, equal to many of the top state campgrounds we have visited in our travels. Seniors pay half price from Sunday night thru Thursday night. Located on the Des Moines river down from an Army Corps lake, this park has good RV and tent sites. Clean, well-kept, great security and good camp hosts. Often has sites midweek, but book ahead for electric sites on weekends. Nice hiking trails. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

Busy weekend with everyone out enjoying the great weather. We were surprised to have no electric-only openings at this Polk County Park. We enjoyed our waterfront view in the "primitive" area without water, nor electricity. Watching the pelican migration (yes really!) was a very nice bonus. Horses on the trails were fun to watch, and on a previous visit we'd booked a trail ride at the Jester Park Equestrian Center. Primitive area has a marvelous view of the stars. I'd hope that someday a dog park will be added to the park. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Lake sites were flooded this year and do not have electric, so we stayed on a site on a gravel loop. There were a mix of trailers, fifth wheels, motor homes, and tent trailers on the loop and tents on the non-electric sites going toward the lake. Very well maintained with clean restroom and shower facility. Had very quiet nights. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
