What a surprise this place was. It is about 2 miles south of Kure Beach. The first impression you get is from the brightly painted WWII quarters that are now guest houses. They look pretty beat up on the outside, but are reportedly okay inside (and there is a program to replace them). Further on there is a small RV park on the right side. If you continue on to the museum you will find the registration building and some more sites. Only one site by the registration building is 50 amp. The others in the RV park have 30 amp. In all cases the utilities are in some odd places. You need to have sewer, water, and electric extensions to place your RV where you would want it. The registration building has a gift shop. The pool and bar & grill were still closed (open Memorial day). All utilities are good. Cable is great. WiFi is almost non-existent. For WiFi, go park next to the rec center, or building 122. There is no dog run, but there are acres of places to walk your dog. There is a boat launch and fishing pier. If you have AT&T the service is very bad. Canoes, bikes, and golf carts are for rent. Our recommendation is go drive to Southport, and take the ferry over the river ($15). You do not have to unhook, and they take class A's. If you take the ferry, just head north on "the" road, and Fort Fisher is only about half a mile. As others have said, this is a hidden gem. Recommend you call for reservations. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Camped here for 8 days at RV#7. This site was a great shaded site. We had to pull in and set-up, due to the utilities, but it worked out great. Location is the key to this campground, and I will be coming back. The recreation center and pool was great. The staff for this facility go out of their way to assist in any way they can. Sites were concrete and level. VERY close to the beach and sound. Campground has a fishing pier for the sound. While we were there, they had a concert for everyone, and it was well administered. This place is definitely a GEM. They are currently working on water for the RV sites, but never had a outage. They are spending money on the facilities, but you are dealing with the government. Can't wait until my next stay! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

What a gem. Across the street from the ocean, and the bay right on the base. Host did everything he could to keep us from moving, but we did not have reservations so we had to move once while we were here. I would have given all 5 stars but the laundry area was not clean and some of the facilities were not offered in the winter months, like the gym. We will stay at this facility again when in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Military FAM camp with standard rate per night so a very good deal. Not too many sites, so book early. Long deep sites with no obstructions for RV slideouts. Basic cable TV, but had 'snow' on all channels for two days. Some sites have the hook ups on the incorrect side (non-standard older set up), so you can either park the RV in the opposite direction, or bring extension cords and extra hoses. Still a great deal because so close to beach activities! We camped here in a Motorhome.

An excellent small campground located about 100 yards from the beach. You must be military or retired military to camp here or to use the facilities. Large camping spots with electric, water and sewer at a extremely low price being so close to the beach. We tried to get a reservation to go back in June but they were all booked up. This would be a great get-away during the Fall or Winter. I would definitely camp here again and would recommend the area for a relaxing stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

Superior camp ground! You must be military, retired or active or have a retired/acitve military sponsor with you to camp here. We have been here several times. There is nothing negitive to say! Visit the website, too many amenities to list here. You name it, they have it. The staff is outstanding and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. Great fishing! Hot in summer so bring a fan or AC. No electric in the tent area. Water front views only in tent area or RV overflow area I personally prefer the RV overflow, no sewer hookup but nice, shady and close to the Cape Fear river. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a military affiliated campground so you must be active duty, retired military or civil service to use it. It is very small. There is only about 10 pads for large RVs. It is like most military campgrounds, it is kept clean and neat. It is right across the street from Kure Beach (below Wilmington). We thoroughly enjoyed it and will stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
