We boondock a lot and I have been wanting a fake alarm system. I went to Radio Shack and bought a little flashing red light run by 2 AA batteries. It has a hard plastic case, an on/off switch and a red light that flashes about once every 3 seconds. The whole thing is just a little larger than the two batteries. A whopping price of 3 bucks. I bought 2. We have the velcro stickup buttons. I'll put one by the entrance door and one by the drivers seat. They do not do anything but flash a red light, but I think they will fool a bugler or at least make him move on to a coach without a "security system".
Hi Lindsay, I just had a new system installed in my home that uses the cell phone network rather than a land line for monitoring purposes. I don't see any reason it could not be adapted to an RV. There are also solar powered motion detector lights available, at quite reasonable prices. No thief wants to be "lite up". And there is the old "stand by". A nice thick dog chain. No dog--just the chain.
When I used to travel a lot for work, and had to stay in hotels, I carried a wedge. I don't know if they make those any more. I put the wedge in the door, and if someone tried to open my door it would make a piercing alarm. I thought of trying to put one of those in my RV door. JJ
I have been wondering what % of the time on RV breakins, do they use the door. I suspect many times they use a window.

Hi, My windows have a lock on them--but it only works if they are fully closed. All we can hope to do is to slow down or make it awkward for someone to get in. Off in the RV for a ten day trip on Sunday *hurray*!!! And even better, I'll be able to do my power consumption test on the water heater to see how much energy it uses in 24 hours.

Thank You. I got a new Droid phone a week or so ago as my present. Yesterday, my beloved computer died (got very sick) and I got a new laptop and am having to transfer everything over. Not an easy task. Been on Carbonite for 18 hours and about half way done. Still have to reinstall the programs and switch over to Windows Seven. Our daughter has been in and out of hospital and our May 1 start day for Western trip is long gone.
Switching computers is always a pain. We went through it twice last year. Sorry your trip is delayed, and I really wish your daughter a speedy recovery. TX
A bit off subject, but not s much as previous posters If you are inside and need to scare someone away, use your vehicle panic button if so equiped. We keep one of the key fobs next to the bed--can summon help, maybe. Think heart attack. The other day I was having trouble dialing in the sat. dish and need a fine adjustment, except I couldn't hear DW yell it was good because of the distance and CG tractor noise. Had her press the vehicle horn button on the key fob when we had a good picture--worked great.
As they say, locks are to keep your friends out. I use a similar device on my motorcycle. Gives ME some piece of mind, anyways.
