We have heard that the RV park that is with the new Hollywood Casino (formerly Casino Magic) in Bay St. Louis, MS is up and running and as good as ever. We think the casino is opening Labor Day weekend. Before Katrina we checked out several other RV places between there and Biloxi and Casino Magic was the best in our opinion. Buccaneer State Park was another good place, but we know it was devastated, and we haven't heard of its status recently. Another place closer to Biloxi was Parker's Landing. We never stayed there, but we drove by it several times and it looked nice. Don't know how it weathered the storm.

We really loved this area before Katrina and have wondered how it was doing. Give us a report when you get back, and have a nice trip.

We are misplaced texans , and like you we really loved this area. had been there several times over the years. We thought that they could use the boost in tourist dollar4s and we could get our gambling fix. will report when we get back

I would call any park you wish to visit before you go. Most all parks on the coast were washed five miles inland last year. It will take time to rebuild and replace all the damage items. We have used Parker's Landing in the past and it was not to good years ago, also park was couple feet over sea level so it would flood out in a storm. The Biloxi - Gulfport coast line was also one of our better places to tour. I hope it will come back to life soon.

    Good luck!

We really like Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis. I agree with John that you should call ahead and make sure all is okay before you go. As to Parker's Landing, forget it. We were there before the storm and, if anything, the storm may have improved it.

We have stayed at Cajun RV Park - which was near Treasure Bay. We called them last year and they were full up with FEMA trailers . Also stayed at Parker's Landing and Mazela, but they also suffered damage and I do not know if they have recovered yet. Journey's End is the old KOA out on I-10 in Ocean Springs (actually just north of I-10). It is on the north side of the Highway and last I heard it was open. Call them. If they are full, I am sure they could give you some other options. Yeah! the Beau Rivage opens this weekend. Great place and the photos from TV look even better. Try it out if you get down there. Hope we can make it back soon.

It is true that many campground were full of FEMA trailers. However, some of the campgrounds are slowly regaining there identity again. The Hollywood Casino Campground (formely Casino Magic) in Bay St. Louis, MS, is up and running and getting rave reviews. I spoke with the MS State Park Department in Jackson, MS about Buccaneer State Park in Waveland (which was wiped out, except the wave pool) and I was told that perhaps by the end of this year, 2006, it would be back up and running. It probably was the crown jewel of the MS State Parks (campground) and also had an extremely nice water park. The wave pool survived with very minor damage and will be refurbished. The water slides are nowhere to be found.
The coast is trying to come back, and is making pretty good stides here and there, where the infrastructure is available and repaired (water and sewer lines).
Call around. And call the Mississippi Gulf Coast Tourism Commission, too. (228) 575-4297. And check out their website.
