we like the 4J+1+1 in Ouray. We have been going to Ouray every summer since 1992. When we first started going, we always rented a condo but that was before our RV days. It is on the Umcompaghre River and the heart of town is only 2 blocks away. Ouray is called Little Switzerland of America and is a half hour drive from Silverton. We always have to make our annual trek over to Silverton to the ice cream shop.

In Durango we used the United Campground of Durango. Only RV park that had steam train passed thru park couple times a day. Park is on Hwy 550 and this will take you up to Silverton. Park also sits on the river. Silverton has a number of parks with full hookups. From Silverton Hwy 550 will take you up to Ouray and as Cheryl said this is a great place to spent some time.

We found all three places to be great. Do use care on Hwy 550, views are out of this world on this road. You can drive a 40 footer with tow on this two lane road but speed limit is 5 MPH in a lot of places. You think at times you are in airplane as you move around the mountains.

    Have fun!

We spent May in SW Colorado and loved a park outside Dolores, called Priest Gulch. It's about 15 miles north of Dolores and worth a visit. Located on the Dolores River.
In Durango we stayed at the Alpen Rose. Shaded sites far from road and nice. Ridgeway State Park is very nice and not far from Ouray.
Silverton doesn't have a nice park, would stay in Durango and drive toad up to Silverton.

    Have fun :)
